British Dirt Track Mini Bike Championships - Coventry 10th March
Following on from the massive success of the two Dirt Track Cross rounds at Newport and last years Dirt Track Championships for Mini Bikes, now is the time to sign up for Round 1 of the Welsh Pitbikes British Mini Bike Dirt Track Championships, which kicks off at the Plush Coventry International Speedway Stadium on the 10th March Coventry.

Racing in flat out, short sharp races, on the speedway track, this is a different type of racing and with a full line up of Minis expected the racing is fast and furious, great to watch, even better to race in.

The top six from last year are seeded through to the main event with a few other seeded spots up for grabs for riders who have the pedigree to be contenders and based on results in the DTX and other MCF Mini Events.

Riders of all abilities can race in the daytime qualifier at 2pm and the top boys go through to the main event so a great day for all! You can also ride in the MX class.

Only being down the road from Mallory and the day before the Mini Bike Champs it will be a great weekend to take in two events all with the same MCF license

British Dirt Track Cross Championships - Round 1 - results

A very muddy but great day of racing was had on Sunday, for round one of the British Dirt Track Cross Championships for 2012. A full report to follow but stand out performances from Luke Cooper with a Maximum, and comeback king James Fletcher in the Quadzilla sponsored QRA Quad class, and Steve Martin in the Welsh Pitbikes sponsored Mini Bike class spring to mind. Not forgetting another fantastic perfomance from Dayfdd Davies in the Elite Youth Quads, this youngster has a big future, and James White-Williams again taking the MX class, although Blaine Blackwell did get the better off him in one race. Thanks again to all you came to watch, race, marshall and help out, and Newport Speedway.

Our new sponsors from Ducksmart Bike cleaner were also there and donated prizes for the top three in each class. I think after the mess the bikes were in after this one, it was thankfully recieved by those who won them.

Trails and Motocross News TMX Dirt squirts article!!

Good news for off road Mini Bike Racing this week as we made the TMX Newspaper.

As some of you will know the TMX is a big player in the Moto Cross world, And for us to not only to just get a mention but also pictures!
This is more than we could have hoped for.
Check it out and for all of you that have been living under a rock for the last few years thinking there is no racing going on.

This is a good little insight in to the new and affordable side of racing that you can do on a budget.

With the help of ATE (All Terrain Events) we have got together and put a Pit bike class with a season of multi discipline events.

This is covering all major aspects of off road racing such as Dirt Track Cross, MX , Enduro, Dirt Short Track, Beach Cross.

So there is a type of racing to suit all styles and abilities of racing throughout the UK.

And on top of this they are all run under the MCF banner so if you are any good you could come away with a title.

Juice BOX Electric Version 2

Ok, so it’s been a while since we updated the world on our electric pit bike. The project unfortunately had to go back to the drawing board at the pre-production phase when the price of rare earths shot through the roof almost tripling the price of our motor & making the project unviable. There were also quite a few negative comments noted on the internet relating to the styling of the bike, so we took this opportunity to redesign the whole bike, virtually from scratch.

In hard testing we have had motor overheating issues (burnt out windings & commutator) & we have been working closely with suppliers on a bespoke motor design that suits our high power requirements. The JBE now features a motor temp cut-out, so if for example a rider decides to ride the bike up into the welsh mountains & overheats the motor, it will cut the power to the motor until it has cooled down again. The speed controller is also our own specification, based on an industrial design with a few tweaks for top speed & acceleration control with additional current limiting to prevent riders burning out the motor.

Because this bike is targeted at a very low price bracket we cannot use many of the new technologies on offer as they are far too expensive, e.g. brushless motors, lithium based batteries etc. This bike uses lead-acid gel batteries & brushed motor technology.

Due to the hardware limitations we have had to come up with some clever tweaks to get the performance we need, at a price the customer is willing to pay. We are not prepared to state the true power out put, but let’s just say it’s over 1 kw, can pop wheelies with a little bar tug & hits a top speed of around 22 mph. Perfect for youngsters or big kids (adults) to play on too. It will last typically 1 hour 10 minutes when ridden flat out. however, if you turn dow the acceleration & top speed e.g. for kids learning, it will run for up to 3 hours on 1 charge.

I have read some funny comment about electric pit bikes e.g. ‘you cannot jump them…’ errr. This baby jumps just fine, based on a CRF50 style chassis it’s light nimble & flick-able & most certainly jumps without issue. In fact it’s a blast, albeit a virtually silent one (think stealth, woods, trails, street spots, concrete skate parks etc. of course all private legal ones).

We have also come up with some other clever innovations such as the ‘beeper buzzer’ this lets the rider know the bike is live. When the throttle is closed, there is a delay of a few seconds before a subtle beeper starts to sound with a small LED for visual warning. This device reminds you to switch off the bike when you come to a standstill.

We have experienced many times what happens when people are unaware of the electric JBE being switched on. Kids & adults have a natural obsession with opening the throttle of a bike. This is fine on a petrol engine because you can hear it running. However on an electric bike it generally results in the bike flying off its stand crashing into whatever is surrounding, with the intrepid throttle puller hanging off the back crumpling to a heap on the floor. In more severe cases a child could be sticking their fingers where they shouldn’t. The Beeper buzzer aims to prevent this with the audible & visual warning.

Although we are still at the final prototype phase, we feel we have finally cracked this little beast & will soon be designing for production once again. Let’s hope nothing stops us in our tracks this time & we can get the JBE on sale by the end of the year. Fingers Crossed

Chris Taylor Shows Them Whos Boss

Well, it went to the wire, but young, talented Chris Taylor did it for Stomp in the British 125 MiniGP/moto4 2011. Chris was crowned British Champion at the last race of the last round at Llandow in south Wales. Beating off his rivals, he had one last score to settle and skillfully nailed it on the last bend to achieve ultimate glory in true Stomp style. Chris/team then further humiliated rivals when forced to strip their engine for 'accused' cheating. Well, let me tell you something, Stomp don't do cheating, we never have and we are not about to start now.,,, so it was egg on face all around when it was discovered riding ability, bike set up & true GRIT won the day. In response, the accusee's machine was also stripped to discover an ilegal ignition system was fitted. Poor loser & a cheat.... oh well that's racing for you; but what's important is that Chris is the British Champion. He did his family, himself & Stomp really proud.

Congratulations Chris, a future star for sure... time for Superteens???

Stomp Racing engines On Song in Jr Speedway

Stomp are happy to now announce that they are now participating in a new motor cycling discipline in the form of junior speedway racing.
Though we do not build a complete Jr Speedway bike, we can build however good fast and strong engines to suit this application.
This year with the help of one of our dealers Dave Wicks M/C of Kings Lynn we have been helping British U15 Junior speedway rider Lewis Whitmore.
Lewis this year has certainly showed what he can do on the shale circuits and is also gathering a lot of attention from the speedway world. This including ex British World speedway champion Gary Havelock.
He recently had a hard thought British 125cc championship race meeting at Eastbourne Speedway
Lewis rode some very hard and well thought race’s taking win’s from the back in all is qualifying heats to make through to the main final where after some hard racing from the back see him get all the way up to 2nd place only to take a fall.
Though he got back up and finished he only claimed the 4th place but this still scored him some valuable championship points.
PHIL Morris(Under 15 British Team Captain) has described the inaugural British 125cc Youth Championship last weekend as a “fantastic night of racing.”

The event was staged at Eastbourne following the Eagles’ KO Cup semi-final against Poole, and after a successful night Morris feels it will now have a regular place on the calendar.

Henry Atkins took the honours, going through the card unbeaten in qualifying races and Final, with Jack P Blackburn and Ben Woodhull also on the rostrum and Lewis Whitmore in fourth place.

Morris said: “It was a fantastic night of racing on a track that was very wet due to persistent rain throughout the twelve heats. The rain only eased for the Final.

“Henry was a very deserving winner as he won all of his heats and the big Final which counted. Jack was second and has improved beyond recognition, and Ben had another solid meeting and was always in line for a podium place.

“Lewis is a very intelligent rider who has already got a fantastic racing brain by using outside swoops and cut-back moves to pass riders after his bad starts.

“We would like to thank the BSPA for sanctioning the event, Eastbourne for running it, and Wessex Marina for sponsoring it. Everyone voted it a great success, and I’m sure this will definitely now be an annual event.”
Our help for Lewis is only in the form of supplying his engine and with a lot of help from one of our dealers Dave Wicks Motorcycles of Kings Lynn.
So a very big well done to you both and we will all be hoping for some silver ware at the end of the year.
