Adam’s Shipp Comes In At Round One
The British Dirt Track championships set out its stall good and proper at the Coventry Speedway Stadium with round one of the series ticking all of the boxes in terms of race action and excitement.
The action was close fought all of the way in the Welsh Pit Bikes British Dirt Track Mini Bike Championships. Current champion Mark Richardson had engine problems in his first race gifting the points lead to Former British Grasstrack Champion Adam Shipp who was more than impressive in his debut mini outing. Richardson went on to win the final, with Shipp in second, but it was Coventry Speedway Star Edward Kennett who got closest to the Champion riding the boards for maximum grip giving him 2nd place in the standings, but an engine failure in the Final halted his chances of taking the spoils.
Works STOMP racer Luke Coker worked his way through the field to 3rd place in the final starting at the back of the grid due to a crash in his 2nd heat which hindered his scoring. Terry Saunters, Steven Rhodes and Steve Martin were all front runners also and the battles in this class were amazing to watch with plenty of spills as usual, with the most spectacular going to both Nick Lawrence and Gary Phelps who both scored 9.5 for artistic interpretation.
In all it was another great Dirt Track event with the racers and spectators all loving the circuit and the quality of the racing. The next round in the series is on the 21st April.
