Swindon Dirt Track event announces Home Town Heroes

A new initiative between British Dirt Track, Welsh Pitbikes, the Swindon Advertiser and Swindon Speedway has announced the two young riders that are taking part as the Home Town Heroes at the forthcoming British Dirt Track event at the Abbey Stadium on the 8th July.

The winners who applied to become the events Home Town Hero by emailing and posting on Social Media, will race in the Welsh Pitbikes British Mini Bike Dirt Track Championships at Blunsdon against some of the countries top racers, in what is round 3 of the national series. The Works STOMP/Welsh Pitbikes team will also provide support for the winners throughout the event, and will class them as part of their race team for the duration of the evening.

Two heats of 12 racers will fight for points in 5 point scoring heats aiming to qualify through to the final where prizes are up for grabs. The first HTH winner is 15 year old Swindon lad Piran Crook, who will take place in his first ever Mini Bike event. Piran rides Moto X, and his brother rides in the British Youth Speedway Championships, who he mechanics for. Piran’s father Patrick was over the moon when told of the prize, “when we first read about the competition in the Advertiser we were surprised that events like this were being run, so we jumped at the chance of entering Piran. We are local and many of our family and friends will be coming to support him and we hope if he goes well that he can continue in the series”.

The second winner who was awarded his place by Welsh Pitbikes is 17 year old Tom Haynes who is currently studying in Hampshire, but with close connections to Swindon. Tom said “this is tremendous news, I was going to ride in my first official event earlier in the year but my bike blew, up now I am racing in a national championship. I have Family and a lot of friends from Swindon, so I will be hoping to impress them”.

Swindon Speedway’s Alun Rossiter, who backed the initiative, said “the fact that both guys have local connections means they have the opportunity to literally be Home Town Heroes and I know I will be supporting them. I have heard a lot about the Mini Bike racing and I will be keeping a strong eye out to see the talent that is out there”

A full preview of the winners will be on www.britishdirttrack.co.uk soon as well as other info on the series.

The event starts at 6pm on the 8th July at the Abbey Stadium, with turnstiles open at 5pm. The Mini bike racing is part of a host of other national Dirt Track championship action taking place that night with the Countries top Quad, Dirt Track Solo (grasstrack) and MX riders going for glory in fast and furious sprint racing action.
