Heath turns on the Mini style at Swindon Dirt Track

Heath turns on the Mini style at Swindon Dirt Track The British Dirt Track championships headed to pastures new and the famous Abbey Stadium, home of the Swindon Robins speedway team on Sunday. The track was in awesome condition and once again there was a great line up in the Welsh Pitbikes British Dirt Track Mini Bike championships, with new faces added into the mix including the two Home Town Hero’s Piran Crook and Tom Haynes. The racing as always was epic and enjoyed by the 500 plus crowd in attendance with Team Stomps Gary Phelps showing good early form to take the first race with an intense battle with Trevor Heath. This battle was replicated in the final in a four way battle which Heath managed to win. The brothers Frearson were also in great form with Adam being the top scorer on the day with some forceful racing, whilst his brother performed well including some intense battles with series leader Luke Coker of Team Stomp. Last years runner up Wayne Holloway made a good return to the fold (and thanks to Wayne for lending us his bike for a town centre promo stand we ran the day before) and looked quick and confident on his former Speedway stomping ground. Local racer Blaine Blackwell was doing it for the little machines and showed that you can still mix it on his Super Stock KLX 110cc with a semi auto clutch coming 7th overall and 6th in the final. Loads more battles up and down the field were had, and yet again an awesome camaraderie in the pits with riders from all classes with much respect being paid to the Minis and the racing served up by the other racers, many of which are looking to take part on a mini bike in the future. Regulars Wayne Johnstone, Matthew Cole, Shane Jordan and Ryan Jefferies all added points to their tally as they aim to get in the top 12 of the series and get in the Super Final at Coventry with prizes and some cash up for grabs in October. Congratulations to both the Home Town Hero’s for their performance and for becoming part of the series, and a big thank you to the STOMP/Welsh Pitbikes team for looking after them. Thanks again for all of your support and we look forward to the next round at the smaller circuit at Rye House, in Hertfordshire, on a technical track which should certainly showcase the skill of the riders. The series is growing in popularity with everyone welcome to take part, whatever ability. If you are a front runner the racing is intense with sprint flat out races. If you are new to the game this is a great way to try racing, enjoy the camaraderie and just get yourselves on a bike and enjoy getting the back end out and being part of it. The next round is at the Rye House Stadium, Hoddeson, Hertfordshire on Sunday the 22nd July.
